Oh, hi there! My name is Louise and I’m the woman behind Woman Gone Wandering – The Art Of Solo Travel.
I’m a Brit based in the beautiful Bavarian city of Munich, Germany – rather ironic considering that I studied French, but that’s another story.
Writer at heart, I’m the author of several amusing unpublished works entitled ‘Supercat’ which I created at the tender age of 5 (no Mum, please don’t dig them out and make digital copies). More recently though, for the last 3 years, I’ve been an Online Editor for luxury lifestyle magazines Centurion and Departures International for American Express*.
I may have recently changed jobs, but my passion for travel and discovering new places remains strong. My wanderlust wasn’t always this overpowering though, there was a time when the thought of travelling alone terrified me. But, when Ryan Gosling was continually unavailable for romantic weekends away and my friends’ busy schedules never seemed to match with mine, I decided it was time to bite the bullet and venture out into the world alone.
I was surprised to discover though, that solo travel still remains somewhat behind in the travel industry – single supplements and standardised tours being the general offering. No longer fitting into the ‘YOLO’ zone of hostelling and seeing the world on a shoestring, and not able to splash out on ultimate luxury either, I endeavoured to find ways to explore the world as a modern, working woman with a medium-sized budget.
With this website I aim to offer inspiration, information and insider tips to all of you women out there who want to see the world on your own steam, but don’t know where to start (or those of you who are feeling tempted, but remain a little petrified and need that extra push!)
There’s a big world out there – go and get it!
Lots of love
